20 Classic Valentine’s traditions around the world

  1. In the philippines, Valentine’s day is a day where many young couples are married in a special event sponsored by the government in the form of a large gala. 
  2. In Ghana, the largest cocoa producing country in the world, February 14th is “National Chocolate Day” and is celebrated with many special events and themed dishes.
  3. Valentine’s Day is celebrated on different days in different countries. In Wales, January 25th is “day of San Dwynwen.” On the day, lovers exchange unique and beautifully handcrafted wooden spoons to each other. This tradition is being practiced since the 16th century.
  4. The Victorians gifted each other “puzzle purses” which are a group of love letters that have distinct unique messages, but also fit together to make a complete “puzzle” of messages.

  6.  Richard Cadbury, the heir of the renowned British chocolate empire, is credited with creating the first heart-shaped box for the holiday, according to History.com. Since then, they have become a delightful and traditional valentines gift

  10. In germany the pig is a symbol of love, and a common gift to give and receive during valentines are pig toys, stuffed animals, and decorations.
